Happiness 101

Today, there are 40 students walking around campus with bigger-than-usual smiles on their faces. The twinkle in their eye is because of a professor who passionately impacted their lives. Ask any of them how they feel about life and they will reply, “It rocks.” I know this because I am one of those students. I can confidently attribute this feeling to one man, and a class I”ve affectionately dubbed “Happiness 101.” I first met Bill Maynard when he confidently walked into his Hospitality Business Management 497 class. Without hesitation he reached out and shook every student’s hand, introducing himself as Bill. Maynard, the co-founder of the Effectiveness Institute in Redmond, has been a guest professor teaching the special topic course at WSU for several years. However, our classroom was small and difficult to maneuver, making Maynard awkwardly weave through the desks.
