Happiness – the value of spending time with loved ones

Life’s little pleasures are worth much more than a lump sum of cash, according to a new report.

Simple things like a chat with the neighbours and spending time with loved ones make people happier than mere money, found researchers.

The study, which attempted to put a financial value on satisfaction derived from simple pleasures like spending more time with friends and family and chatting with neighbours, found those pleasures can give the same happiness as being given more than ê_Ô£100,000 a year.

Experts believe friendships are far more conducive to happiness than cash, estimating that seeing loved ones more often is equal to an extra ê_Ô£85,000 a year.

And even having regular chats with neighbours can be worth a massive ê_Ô£37,000 of extra happiness.
