A realistic take on optimism

I spend most of my time talking about happiness, coaching and positive psychology and within this, I almost always refer to the importance of thinking optimistically.

But just as I have to often explain and define positive psychology coaching and happiness, so too do I typically spend some time clarifying what optimism is…and what it isn’t.

It is, for example, positive thinking but it’s also realistic and flexible thinking. Optimism is not Pollyanna, rose-coloured glasses thinking (e.g. “everything is great” when it’s not really great!).

So I was interested to find this article outlining a realistic take on optimism and how it relates, especially, to the current economic times.
