16 Jan Happiness and loneliness don’t sit well together
Just this morning I posted THIS BLOG ARTICLE on The Happiness Diet's website about the relationship between loneliness and healthy eating and/or effective dieting.
As I was doing so I kept thinking that loneliness is not just an issue for those trying to lose weight or diet effectively but more so, for any and all of us who're trying to create a life full of happiness and wellbeing.
There's no doubt that we all need to look after ourselves if we want to be happy; but there's also no doubt that if that's all we do we can become selfish so for a real and meaningful happiness we need to think about looking after ourselves SO WE CAN THEN look after others.
On a related note, there's no doubt that happy people have both more and better quality relationships; but at the same time, those who're truly happy are also happy and content to be on their own.
So what does all this mean?
It means that living a truly happy and meaningful life involves caring for ourselves AND caring for others; it depends on being comfortable and fulfilled in the company of family and friends AND being comfortable and fulfilled in the company of ourselves.
It is one of those tricky balancing acts that happy people are able to perform better than unhappy people!
But the good news is that you can be one of these happy people if you attend to this crucial issue. If loneliness is a problem for you then ask yourself…
what goes through my mind when I'm on my own?
what does it mean to me to be on my own?
When I'm alone what do I say to myself?
Then I invite you to consider whether or not these thoughts are helpful and/or realistic! If not, what can you say to yourself that would be more helpful? What can you also do to build and foster more positive and meaningful relationships (with others and with yourself)?
Ponder these questions and then, give some consideration to the following options which I hope you might find helpful…
