What would a happiness Olympics look like?

What would a happiness Olympics look like?

It's pretty hard to ignore the Oylympics at the moment (not that you'd necessarily want to) but it's also pretty hard, for me anyway, to not wonder what it would look like if we had a "competition" that rewarded mental, instead of physical strength?

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the Olympics and in fact love to marvel at the incredible feats of endurance and speed and strength and skill.

But at the same time, I'd love to think we could also value, just as much, feats of psychological prowess in which happiness was seen as being just as admirable as running or swimming really fast.

And in thinking about this I turn to the VIA Classification of Character Strengths (HERE in our free resources' section) and suggest a few "events"! What if, for example, we had events in which a "prize" went to…

  • the happiest person in the world

  • the most courageous person

  • the funniest person

  • the most open minded person

  • the wisest person

  • the most honest

  • the kindest and loveliest

  • the best citizen

  • and…the most humble and modest person in the world!

Does anyone else think that a Happiness Olympics would be a good idea?

Does anyone else have any thoughts on what would make for great happiness related events?

Let us know by posting your ideas HERE on The Happiness Institute's Facebook Page. Thanks very much in advance : )
