As you know The Happiness Institute is an organization full of integrity that holds the highest professional standards so it’s an honour to now be a part of the team. A couple of weeks ago, even though we knew there wasn’t much time to get the word out, I was able to gently twist Dr. Happy’s arm and convince him that we should stage a “Funny Ways” workshop on December 1 in Sydney.
Part of the reason for the timing is that I know that the Christmas and holiday season can be a time when the loneliness of being single can really kick in painfully. Believe me I’ve been there! I remember feeling like an outsider as couples at parties laughed freely in the safety and relaxation of a relationship.
But it doesn’t have to be like that. Not if you learn how to leverage the most desirable quality a person can possess – an attractive sense of humour. I have researched the benefits of laughter now for over two decades and in every study the majority of people nominate “good sense of humour” as the quality they find most attractive in a prospective partner.
The most recent study I’ve seen comes from academic publication The American Journal of Play which shows that people’s desire for humour and laughter in a romantic partner has never been higher. In the study respondents rated “good sense of humour” as the number one most desirable quality, “fun-loving nature” was third and “playfulness” was fifth!
Those with humour skills have a huge advantage when looking for romance even over those who fit society’s ideals of beauty. In the American Journal of Play study physical attractiveness was rated the ninth most desirable quality in a romantic prospect, well behind being humourous, playful and fun-loving.
My “Funny Ways to Find Love” seminar is based on a three step process – Access, Develop and Express. Access your sense of humour at a new level, learn how to skillfully develop it and to express it in ways that attract and captivate others.
It’s not about becoming someone else. It’s about becoming more of the fun-loving, charming and attractive person you are when you are able to show your true self through your unique sense of humour. And anyone can learn how to do this. I know because I have now helped thousands of people all over the world use humour and laughter to bring what they want into their lives.
